The Collection & Dyslexia-Friendly Books

I readWe have got a pretty broad collection of books by now. It covers about 24 categories, some are richer than others. The Fairies and Dinos are doing quite well, Pirates still need a bit of help. So with the little funds that I have, I am now trying to bump up the categories with very few books such as Sports, Countries and yes, Pirates .

I am also working on identifying & sourcing books that are dyslexia-friendly. I have been going through recommended reading lists and we have actually already got a few. I have decided to add the sticker (image) that you can see on this post to these books. So if you see a stamp-sticker like that on a book, you know that it has been recommended by parents of dyslexic children, lovereading or Waterstone’s guide to choosing dyslexia-friendly books for children. Any recommendations or questions, please email me : info@littlelibrary.nl

And we are open …

op9The Open Day at Montessori and the opening of The Little English Library were just great – there was such a buzz. It was lovely to see so many familiar faces visiting with their children, getting their library cards and taking books out. It as also great to meet so many new English and Dutch speaking parents who were interested in The Little English Library. It got really busy and mums and children were just enjoying the books and having a good chat. Fabulous!

So lots of emails have been coming in now about opening times &  how to get books out: If you want to take books out – please note that you need a library card. You can get your library card from Nicole if you are an IWC member or from Roz if you are part of the Little Breda Monkeys and from me of course. I am in most days as I pick up my children so can meet up and explain everything.

The IWC Mums’n Tots Group is meeting this week (4.04) at the Montessori School at 10 am and Little Breda Monkeys are meeting on Thursday 10.04 – so good days to pop by, join in and get your child’s card.

And talking of activities – The first Rhyme Time Session with Hazel is starting Tuesday 15th at 10:45 – lots of interest already- tots get your rattles ready!

Wednesday afternoon will be Open Access for all Breda Primary School children and those sessions will start after the Easter holidays in May. And story telling on a Friday afternoon for 4-7 year olds with Roz will also be starting after the Easter holidays.

Any questions, please email me over our fb page or info@littlelibrary.nl

4 more days …

back shelvesAnd here we go 4 more days till we open on the Montessori Open Day (28.03) and it’s looking really good. The back panels of the book shelves are all in place…they don’t just look fantastic but are really useful. Thank you Patricia & Team.

I am working on sorting out the check-out system, large category stickers for the shelves, preparing audio books … nearly there!

Final Touches …

library booksAnd the books are slowly finding their way into the shelves. The shelving is still going to get a cover at the back with an additional ledge to place books. Patricia from TIESENCOO & her team are working hard to get everything ready for next week’s Open Day ( 28.03 : 09:00-12:00).

We have managed to collect about 1000 books and over 5 0 audio-books – brilliant! And more coming…

I will be posting the library schedule at the start of next week – there will be lots going on.
